A Basic Curry Gravy Recipe
We were supposed to have a barbecue this weekend, however, it got late on Saturday before we got round to cooking so decided to have something quick and easy from the freezer. Rather than waste the meat (turkey and beef in this case) we decided to make up some indian food and freeze it for a later date, hence the need for a quick easy basic curry gravy recipe. Here are the ingredients that I used:-
Basic Curry Gravy Recipe Ingredients
- 3 tomato’s (roughly chopped)
- 2 medium onions (roughly chopped)
- 1 inch square of ginger
- 3 garlic cloves
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp hing
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp tomato puree
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp salt
Method for Basic Curry Gravy Recipe
1. Blend the oil, onion, tomato, garlic and ginger in a food processor
2. Add the mixture to a frying pan with a little oil and cook for 5 minutes
3. Stir in the dried spices, salt and tomato puree and simmer gently for a further 10 minutes
4. Job done…easy huh?
Hi, you have included in the ingredients 1/2 tsp of hing, is this a misspelling?
Hi Kim,
Thank you for your comment. No this is not a misspelling, hing may be more commonly knows as asafoetida – it’s just a hell of a lot easier to spell!!!
Take a look here for more info – if you’ve not come across it before I definitely recommend trying it out, it’s a bit like salt in that it enhances flavours beautifully!
Hi
Loved your recipe. What can be used instead of hing, because I am not sure if it will be available here. Can we use this gravy with any vegetables also? Waiting for your reply.
Simple and easy! I usually cook curry like this when I don’t have much time available. Though my list of ingredient is somewhat different. I will try your list and see how this taste. Hing is very essential ingredient that is mostly used to improves the flavor/taste of dish.
Being vegetarian,I always look for recipes which are delicious, easy to make, less time consuming as well as nutritious and this recipe is just perfect for me.This gravy looks spicy and the curry will be quite tasty and protein rich after addition of pulses.
A very simple and easy recipe. I do use hing for cooking purposes, but will it taste really good in this recipe? And I always use a pinch or two of it. But here you have mentioned 1/2 tsp?
